WHAT IS SHOCKWAVE/PULSEWAVE?
Shockwave/Pulsewave
Our amazing bodies are designed to repair and restore tissue, bone and cells after an acute injury. When we suffer from chronic pain it is because the body no longer recognizes that there is an injury and shuts down the healing process.
Shockwave (sometimes called Pulsewave) therapy provides a ‘microtrauma’ to the area of chronic pain and creates a new inflammatory condition. The “new” injury triggers your body’s natural healing response once again. In many cases just 6 - 8 visits are necessary and the procedure is generally not painful. Each visit is about 15 minutes (varies with area of treatment (see right).
What are the benefits of shockwave treatments?
Reduces inflammation
Stimulates bone & tissue repair
Relieves pain
Improves joint mobility
Breaks up scar tissue and calcium deposits
Non Invasive
Shockwave therapy can provide great results in just a few quick visits and NO surgery!
What does a visit look like?
Ultrasound gel is applied to the injured area. Then a “wand” or applicator is used to administer the compressed air impulses over the affected area in a slow motion.
Does it hurt?
There may be some minor discomfort, but we can reduce that by altering the shockwave settings. All you have to do is let us know. After treatment there may be some soreness for a day or two, similar to a workout at the gym.
How long has Shockwave been around?
Over the past 20 years there have been extensive studies on Radial Shockwave Therapy. Those studies show a 91% improvement and 84% success rate for many conditions.
Shockwave can effectively treat:
-
Plantar fasciitis
-
Osteo- arthritis
-
Knee injuries
-
Frozen Shoulder
-
Rotator cuff injuries
-
Tennis/Golfers elbow
-
Heel spurs
-
Carpal Tunnel
-
Neuropathy
“Physician heal thyself?”
“As a chiropractor, I use my hands and thumbs for work daily. I was at the point that I could not open my hand wide and extend my thumb. I could not do push ups without pain in my thumb/wrist.
When trying to open a jar or bottle, I would experience sharp piercing pain.
After only four sessions of shockwave I can now do these things with much more confidence and 85% reduced pain. No more wincing in anticipation of the pain!”
